A conservatory is a wonderful marketing feature for wedding venues, wedding centers, restaurants with event spaces, or hotels with meetings and functions spaces. A Conservatory or Orangery offers the feeling of being outdoors in any weather or climate. Garden wedding pavilions are an increasingly popular venue for weddings.
We encourage prospective clients to get us involved early in the process so that we can help envision an event space that achieves the goal of a beautiful transition to the outdoors or free-standing building that is not just cost effective, but functions well. Designing a venue that discreetly accommodates HVAC and back of the house functions and lighting requires careful consideration of cost and function. It is more difficult to cool a large glass space than to heat it but simply darkening the glass too much can defeat the purpose of the outdoor feeling. Therefore, our design approach considers glass area, glass type and solid/glass area ratios.
In many instances a full glass roof might not be the best approach and for that reason an Orangery style should be considered, with conservatory elements like glass roof lanterns, folding-sliding doors and expanses of side glass. We would rule out an all-glass conservatory structure, particularly for smaller venues but considering the nature of the use of the building, the orangery is very adaptable to the particular needs of this type of function.
